Yoga Mats & Blocks

Most yoga mats are made from a combination of EVA foam (for cushioning and grip) and a non-slip surface layer (often PVC, natural rubber, or TPE). Eco-friendly options may use organic cotton, jute, or recycled materials for the outer layer.

Standard yoga mats are typically 68–72 inches long and 24–26 inches wide. If you're taller or need extra space for transitions, look for extended-length mats (up to 84 inches). For beginners or those who prefer more stability, a thicker mat (4–5mm) may be ideal.

Eco-friendly yoga mats avoid harmful chemicals like PVC and opt for biodegradable or recyclable materials. Brands may use natural rubber, organic cotton, jute, or recycled plastics. Look for certifications like OEKO-TEX®, FSC, or GOTS for verified sustainability.

Clean your mat after each use with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking it in water. Store it flat or rolled to prevent compression. For non-slip surfaces, occasional brushing helps maintain grip. Replace if the surface becomes worn or loses elasticity.

Most mats work for all styles, but thicker mats (5–6mm) provide better cushioning for hot yoga or advanced poses. For Hatha or restorative yoga, a thinner mat (3–4mm) may be preferable. Some mats have specialized features like grip enhancers or anti-bacterial coatings.

Yoga blocks come in varying heights (typically 1–2 inches thick) and materials (foam, cork, or jute). Choose a block that matches your yoga mat’s thickness for stability. Cork blocks are eco-friendly and provide a natural grip, while foam blocks are lightweight and durable. Ensure they’re non-slip for safety.
